In August 2011, Nuffield Bowling Club achieved “Boltonmark” approval for making a positive contribution towards “sport and active living” in Bolton.

The club had to go through some vigorous checks; complete an extensive portfolio and reach a standard acceptable to be awarded the "Boltonmark" Medal. (Still awaited)

Boltonmark is part of Bolton Council. completion of the portfolio means that our club has been listed as "Safe, friendly and effective". This accreditation sits alongside governing body accreditations and can be used as a tool to complete Clubmark through County Sports partnership or Ofsted.

Boltonmark also provides benefits including

·         Guaranteed visits by development staff four times each year.

·         Access to avenues of funding which are ring-fenced for organisations with Boltonmark or equivalent accreditation.

·         Assistance with development plans.

·         Endorsement of organisation as a quality provision by Bolton's Positive Contribution Service.

We have our own coach who is CRB checked and there is provision within Boltonmark for other members to be appointed as coaches. This means that we are able to coach youngsters - who must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, and contact local schools in the area towards that end.

This process was a worthwhile effort by the secretary and treasurer who amongst other things had to show that the club had provided a duty of care; child protection policy; activity programme; equity and ethics and organisational management and skills
